It can't be denied that Luke Skywalker is still an influential figure in the Star Wars universe and his appearances in post-Skywalker Saga projects like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett only prove that the character remains an integral part of the beloved franchise.

Considering the MandoVerse is beginning to expand, it would only make sense for more Luke Skywalker-centric stories to be explored. There were even rumors claiming that Lucasfilm is planning to do a standalone show for the Jedi Master which would chronicle his adventures during the New Republic Era.

However, it doesn't look like Mark Hamill is down to helping recreate the character in a future project despite contributing to the MandoVerse on two separate occasions. Speaking with Esquire, the 71-year-old icon expressed his desire to step away from the character and allow a younger actor to take on the role.

Surprisingly enough, Star Wars diehards echo Hamill's sentiments and following his admission, the movement to convince Lucasfilm to recast Luke Skywalker has been reinforced.

As impressive as Lucasfilm's facial capture technology has been, I think we can all agree that it has overstayed its welcome. And frankly speaking, it should only be utilized to bring deceased actors for cameos similar to what they did with Peter Cushing in Rogue One and Carrie Fisher in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Now, if Lucasfilm actually decides to do more stories centered on a young Luke, I believe it's time they considered recasting the character, especially now that Hamill has given the idea his blessing.
