Star Wars Fans Continue to Petition for J.J. Abrams Original Cut of The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might have been one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019, however, the third and final entry in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy has ended up becoming one of the most divisive entries in the franchise.

Not only are critics giving the film harsh reviews, but fans are also having a bit of trouble backing up the movie. While some blame The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams for the film's excessive fan-service, others put the blame on Lucasfilm instead. There has been a rumor spreading around saying that Lucasfilm/ Disney tampered with Abrams' plans for The Rise of Skywalker and that the filmmaker has an original cut of the movie out there with less fan-service and a better narrative that would have better suited the film.

Now, it looks like fans are putting their whole heart into the Abrams cut, running a petition for Disney to release what's been rumored to be a three-hour-long version of The Rise of Skywalker. The petition has been gaining considerable traction, gathering around 6000 signature online – a thousand and five hundred signatures short of the goal set for the petition.

"J.J. originally had a 3+ hour cut of the film however Disney took creative control over Star Wars and prevented JJ from telling the full story he had in mind. Please read the article linked below for full insider details on this cut of the film and how Disney blindsided JJ Abrams," the fan who launched the petition wrote on the petition description.

While it seems like the petition is finally getting the traction it's been looking for, 7,500 signatures don't seem enough to get the attention of Disney. What do you think? Do you believe in the Abrams cut of The Rise of Skywalker? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
