Star Wars: Ewan McGregor Hated That He Had to Lie about His Obi-Wan Return for Years

Ewan McGregor is currently going through the press rounds for Doctor Sleep, but a lot of people are curious about his return as Obi-Wan Kenobi for Disney+. Apparently he's known about his return for years, and he admits he hated having to lie about it for so long.

Talking to The Ellen Show, McGregor admitted, "It's awkward because the studios and the franchises they want to keep everything totally secret, of course, which I understand, but as the person being asked over and over and over again, ‘Will you—would you do it again? Would you do it again?' and I'm already talking to them about it, but I can't say that I am. Like, for four years I was saying, 'Well I'd be happy to do it again! I'm just waiting for the call.' It was embarrassing! Lying!"

Mendell also asked McGregor about the difference between lying and acting, and McGregor replied with, "You get paid to act."

If anything, we would have found out about the Kenobi film earlier if Solo didn't underperform in theaters. Now with Disney+ out, Lucasfilm has an avenue to make more "risky" projects with the risk minimized. Let's just hope that the quality of the live-action series will be the same as the films. If anything, The Mandalorian will give us a clue on what to expect.

For now, there's still no release date for the Kenobi series, but you can catch The Mandalorian when it debuts on Disney+ Nov. 12.
