Ewan McGregor might be an accomplished lightsaber wielder these days but there was a time when the Trainspotting star had to get some help from a friend. Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher had previously shared a story about giving McGregor some lightsaber training and amazingly, the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi actor actually confirmed it.
McGregor was recently a virtual guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his new miniseries Halston. However, the Birds of Prey star was also happy to discuss the Obi-Wan Kenobi show that he is currently filming.
At one point, Kimmel asked McGregor for some clarification on Gallagher's claims that he had taught the Star Wars actor how to do a proper lightsaber duel. McGregor confirmed that it happened but says that the details are a little hazy.
"It was just more of a battle in the garden," McGregor said.
But who won in the duel? McGregor stated that he can't remember much, "I'd be surprised if either of us could remember that," he said.
Gallagher had claimed that he gave McGregor his first lightsaber lesson back in 1997, which was about the same time that the actor started working on 1999's Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Needless to say, McGregor has gone a long way since then.
Halston will premiere on Netflix on May 14. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series has not yet been given an official release date but it is currently in production and is set to air on Disney+ sometime in 2022. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
