Star Wars: Episode IX’s Title Might Be Revealed This Week

Star Wars fans might have resigned themselves to waiting for Star Wars Celebration in April for Star Wars: Episode IX's trailer release, but it looks like we might be getting a major announcement this week. The pattern for the title announcement of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has everyone hoping that we'll get a title reveal for Episode IX, especially now that the third and final sequel trilogy installment has wrapped.

Itching for official news on Star Wars: The Last Jedi's sequel, some Star Wars fans have been openly wondering whether J.J. Abrams would drop Episode IX's title during the wrap party for the film. After all, what better way to celebrate the end of Episode IX's production than with a title drop, right?

Responding to this Star Wars fan's post, another Twitter user noted the title release pattern for The Force Awakens, saying that the wrap part for TFA was held back in Nov 1st, 2014. Five days after that, Lucasfilm announced the official title of the movie.

"Based on how it was done previously, I doubt it. But we could get it in the next few days. The wrap party for TFA was held on Nov 1st, 2014 and the title was unveiled on Nov 6th," Twitter user Sleemo pointed out.

Using this information, it's possible that the title for Episode IX might actually be revealed this week, more specifically, Thursday, February 21.

Of course, not all of the recent Star Wars films had the same pattern, but Abrams was in charge of The Force Awakens, and now he's in charge of Episode IX. Let's just wait and see what becomes of this new theory.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
