Disney has Finally Made a Profit from Their $4 billion Lucasfilm Purchase

Disney had bought the rights for Lucasfilm back in 2012 and six years later have they now made that money back.

As per CNBC, Disney has finally turned a profit from their $4 billion purchase of Lucasfilm. Ever since they brought Star Wars back in 2015, it has been a steady stream of movies, TV series, comics, and books released set in a galaxy far far away. Let's also not forget the mountain of profits that is the merchandising; add to that the upcoming Star Wars theme park, Galaxy's Edge.

Quite honestly, I thought that Disney had already made the money back earlier, but it's great to see that they're doing their best to keep the property alive. I don't know where you stand with the new Star Wars films, but I am happy to be getting more stories apart from the Skywalker saga coming to theaters.

It's a damn shame that Solo didn't make as much money, but seeing the audience reception after home release, I'm hoping that Lucasfilm changes their minds and gives us more anthology movies—not just the highly wanted Obi-Wan Kenobi movie.

For now, it seems that Star Wars is the only thing on Lucasfilm's mind. We do know that there are plans for another Indiana Jones film as well as a Willow sequel, but that could come out in a few more years. With Rian Johnson, David Benioff, and D.B. Weiss working on their own Star Wars trilogies, I can imagine that Lucasfilm has a lot more money to make Disney in the future.

Star Wars Episode IX comes out Dec. 20, 2019.
