Star Wars: Episode IX Trailer Super Bowl Slots Reportedly Stolen By Pepsi

Star Wars fans might be hoping to see the first teaser for Star Wars: Episode IX this February during the NFL's big Super Bowl match, however, it seems like the trailer won't make its way at all.

The news might disappoint the Star Wars fanbase, but according to a new post running on Reddit, Pepsi has taken all the available slots for this year's Super Bowl game. Despite the rumors that Disney and Lucasfilm were negotiating with the NFL for three slots at the Super Bowl at a minimum of $5.1 million each, word has it that Pepsi swooped in, taking the slots that the Mickey Mouse had prepared for the teaser for Star Wars: Episode IX. Apparently Lucasfilm missed the deadline for submitting the footage for the Super Bowl adverts, and so CBS decided to let Pepsi take the studio's place.

"The EPIX (Episode 9) teaser's reservations were claimed void by Pepsi as they want those slots. Pepsi has claimed them void on the grounds of no footage from Disney in for EPIX as all the footage was supposed to be in before the schedule was created on Jan 19, 2019. Pepsi has other reserved slots at the event although unclear how many because my friend could not get another look at the schedule. Pepsi really wants EPIX's slots," Reddit user Brother Dameron wrote on his post.

Of course, one might wonder how exactly could Disney have failed to deliver the footage on time. There were reports earlier this month that the Mickey Mouse House already had a draft of the trailer ready for Episode IX and that the studio was ready to drop the footage at any moment.

"Nothing has been finalised in this predicament yet... I would take this with a grain of salt because my friend has not seen this report first hand but has been passed down this information from another friend who is higher on the hierarchy," Brother Dameron clarified.

While it's natural to question the source of this information, the Redditor also claims that they've already proven their credentials to Reddit's moderators. Still, some of the official moderators are still on the fence about the "proof" that this Star Wars fans provided, so let's take everything with a grain of salt.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
