Star Wars: Episode IX To Feature Final Clash Between Sith And Jedi

There's certainly a lot riding on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Not only is the film the final entry in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, but it's also the culminating entry in the Skywalker saga.

Now, as fans patiently wait for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to put an end to the Skywalker story, Vanity Fair teases the final confrontation between the Sith and the Jedi in the film. Variety writer Journalist Lev Grossman recently wrote a lengthy and indepth piece about Lucasfilm's upcoming Star Wars film, including multiple interviews with The Rise of Skywalker's cast and crew.

"In the new movie, it will provide the climax to the literally millennia-long conflict between the Jedi Order, on the one hand, and the Sith, on the other," Grossman shared in a video for Vanity Fair.

Of course, these may simply be Grossman's deductions about The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm may be planning to continue the battle between the Sith and the Jedi after the film. That, or Grossman could be hinting that The Rise of Skywalker really is the end of the Jedi. There have been multiple theories about the film's title, one of which suggests that the Jedi will drop the title and take on the name Skywalker moving forward.

Could Lucasfilm really be moving on to another narrative in the franchise? The studio did say that future films in the franchise would no longer be connected to the Skywalker saga. Then again, that doesn't necessarily mean the end of the Jedi and Sith.

Let's just wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
