Star Wars: Episode IX Rumor Says We’ll Get To See Leia Training As A Jedi

For the longest time, Star Wars fans have known that they would see Star Wars legends like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. While Lando is going to appear alive and well in the film, many assume that Luke will return as a Force Ghost in Episode IX.

Now, a new rumor is making the rounds online saying that the film may include a flashback to Luke and Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) from the original trilogy, forcing Lucasfilm to feature de-aged versions of the characters.

According to a report by Making Star Wars, fans are going to see a de-aged Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill in The Rise of Skywalker. The opening scene of the film is going to take viewers to a tree-covered planet where two Jedi can be seen dueling each other with lightsabers. One is blue, the other is green. White helmets with visors obscure their faces, however, when the duel ends, the Jedi take off their helmets, revealing themselves to be Luke and Leia looking the same way that they did in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

While we would advise readers to take this report with a large grain of salt, we can't help but consider the rumor as one of great interest. The scene would imply that Leia had actually been Force training with Luke, meaning that at one time in her life, Leia had trained to be a Jedi. It would spark a whole lot of questions – why did Leia stop her training? Does that mean her use of the Force in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is actually justified?

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
