Star Wars: Episode IX Palpatine Leak Reveals True Meaning Behind TROS Title

Star Wars fans were pretty surprised when J.J. Abrams revealed the official title for Star Wars: Episode IX. What did The Rise of Skywalker really mean? Did it mean the resurrection of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill)? Did it mean the return of the Jedi? Did it mean that Rey (Daisy Ridley) would be revealed as a Skywalker? Did it point towards Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) redemption?

Making Star Wars' most recent leak has just inspired a new fan theory, and it looks like The Rise of Skywalker has all to do with Palpatine. According to the most recent leak about Episode IX, the final battle in the film is going to take place in a dead world called Exogol where Darth Sidious is going to face both Rey and Kylo Ren.

On Reddit, a fan formed a new theory about The Rise of Skywalker title, assuming that Palpatine throws Kylo Ren into Exogol's abyss only to find the wayward son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) return to life.

"The name (Golgotha) is intriguing to me. Golgotha was the place traditionally that Jesus was crucified, sacrificed if you will. Literally, the Place of the Skull. Could it be that Exogol is the place that Kylo is sacrificed and beyond that, rises again?" the theory on Reddit posits.

It's an interesting thought. If the theory is true, then we'll literally see Kylo Ren die in the Darkside and then rise as a Skywalker in Episode IX.

What do you think of the theory? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
