Star Wars Episode IX: Battle Droids to Make a Return?

Star Wars Episode IX is set to have their official panel later this month, but some info on the film manages to leak online from time to time. The latest rumor is that the battle droids from the prequels will actually be making an appearance in the finale of the sequel trilogy.

According to Now This is Podcasting (via Reddit), the movie will introduce a snow planet which will be littered with dead battle droids. We don't know to what extent they'll appear in the film, but it's said that 3PO will once again be having his head put on a BD body much like what happened in Attack of the Clones.

Personally, I think it sounds a tad ridiculous, but seeing that this is the podcast from Making Star Wars, a trusted source of Lucasfilm info, it might have some truth to it. The leaked poster did have 3PO actually wielding weapons. What if he wants a more battle-capable body in Episode IX?

When it comes to the sequel trilogy, the references to the prequels have been scarce. So far, the only mentions we've had were the use of a clone army in The Force Awakens as well as a Darth Sidious namedrop in The Last Jedi. While I'm fine that battle droids would be making an appearance in the film, I kind of just wish that J.J. Abrams would give us a choreographed lightsaber fight like in the prequels. Out of all the complaints about those films, I think everyone loved how George Lucas made those battles look ‘elegant' as they sounded.

Then again, it's best to take this one with a grain of salt. Hopefully, we get some kind of confirmation during Star Wars Celebration in a few weeks.
