Star Wars Episode I: Racer Gets a New June Release Date

Lucasarts had made a lot of great Star Wars games, and one title that was set to make a comeback this year was Star Wars Episode I: Racer. Though the game had been delayed indefinitely for a while, we now have a release date set for later this month.

As confirmed by Gematsu, Star Wars Episode I: Racer is now set to come out on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on June 23 (previously it was slated for a May 12 release). The game is set to come with a price tag of $14.99 and is sure to be a blast from the past to anyone who grew up playing the game back in the 90s.

The 90s classic Star Wars Episode I: Racer is coming to Switch and PlayStation 4 complete with modernized controls. A beloved racing title based on the podracing sequence from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars Episode I: Racer puts you behind the controls of your favorite podracers as you speed through flaming methane lakes, Tusken Raider assaults, anti-gravity tunnels, and much more in a pulse-pounding, do-or-die fight to the finish line.

While there is no confirmation if the game will have updated graphics, you will be able to take control of 25 playable racers including Sebulba and Anakin Skywalker. You'll also be able to drive through 8 different tracks, and customize your podracer with a group of pit droids.

While EA has been receiving flak for not publishing enough Star Wars titles, this is sure a step in the right direction. Who knows, if this one performs well, maybe we could be looking at a complete overhaul of the game down the line. Maybe with ships or speeders as well.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer is coming to the PS4 and Nintendo Switch on June 23.
