Star Wars: Chewbacca Actor Comments On The Impact Of Han Solo's Death

Han Solo's death in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was something that fans could see coming and wanted to stop. While we'll see more of the dashing rogue in his younger days during Solo: A Star Wars Story, no one will be replacing Harrison Ford in their hearts anytime soon.

It wasn't just the fans who were tearing up, as new Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo revealed that he was also emotional during the shooting of that scene.

Speaking with Screen Geek, Suotamo stated that it wasn't just him who was feeling emotional. Apparently, the whole set was quiet when Adam Driver and Harrison Ford were shooting the tragic scene, showing how much respect they had for the character.

"It was very emotional to watch that being filmed and to be making all the reactions. We filmed in the same sound stage, but filmed in different moments because it was a large space – but very tragic. Everyone was very quiet when they were filming that, it was just Adam Driver and Harrison on that bridge. It was very emotional to everyone."

The scene was a surprise to fans when The Force Awakens first hit since they were just happy to see their favorite characters again. Han saying "Chewie, we're home," was a moment that many will be nostalgic about forever, so seeing that character meet his fate so quickly was too sad.

Fans will be able to see more of Han in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which comes out on May 25.
