Star Wars Celebration 2020 Canceled, Will Return in… 2022?

Back when the lockdowns first started, a lot of people were hoping that things could go back to normal by June. The sad news is, we're pretty much still at the height of the pandemic, and it looks like one of the other big conventions of the year has been forced to cancel.

According to StarWars.com, Star Wars Celebration 2020, which was set to take place this August, has been canceled as well. This is what they wrote on the announcement:

At Star Wars Celebration, the health and safety of our fans, attendees, exhibitors, guests, and staff is always our number one priority. Due to the global impact of the COVID-19 virus and in speaking with local and state authorities on the latest public health guidelines related to indoor conventions, we have made the decision to cancel Star Wars Celebration for 2020.

Though the event has been canceled, fans are allowed to transfer their current ticket purchases to the next event date set for August 2022. You'll also still be able to get the merchandise that you pre-ordered that was supposed to be exclusive to the 2020 event. It's important though, that you complete the refund/transfer process between June 22 and August 26, 2020.

While some fans are disappointed that SWC is going to skipping out in 2021, it's worth noting that the patterns for the event have not been yearly. There was no Star Wars Celebration back in 2018, and there are several other years that didn't have the event take place.

For now, the next Star Wars Celebration is set to take place in Anaheim on Aug. 18–21, 2022.
