When you think about iconic villains in the Star Wars franchise, apart from Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, the name Grand Admiral Thrawn comes to mind, and for good reason. Now, the ruthless and strategic baddie is gearing up for his live-action debut in the upcoming Ahsoka series but as it stands, we still don't know which actor Lucasfilm has chosen to breathe life into the commanding officer of the 7th Fleet.

Over the last couple of months, names like Lars Mikkelsen and Benedict Cumberbatch have surfaced as top candidates for the role but nothing official has been announced yet.

Now, Christian Bale seems to be a top candidate for the part, especially after revealing that he would love to be in a Star Wars project down the line. But it turns out that the Bale dream casting isn't exactly new and a resurfaced fan art by artist Barrett Digital from 2020 proves that fans have always been interested in the idea of him playing Thrawn.

On Twitter, user Charlie Schneider reshared the menacing image, and judging by the reactions alone, it looks like the Batman and Gorr actor is still a favorite amongst fans. What do you think? Check it out here:

Considering Ahsoka is already filming, the chances of Bale actually playing Thrawn in the series appear to be slim as one would assume that Lucasfilm has already cast the part. But I'd definitely like to see him join the franchise in the future.

Meanwhile, the official release date for Star Wars: Ahsoka has yet to be confirmed.
