Star Wars: Age of Republic Possibly Reveals Why Qui-Gon Jinn Chose Anakin Skywalker

Some people are still questioning Qui-Gon Jinn's decision to train Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels. However, the first issue of Star Wars: Age of Republic - Qui-Gon Jinn may have revealed why the Jedi Master believed the boy was the Chosen One.

Spoilers Ahead! You Have Been Warned!

In the Age Of Republic - Qui-Gon Jinn #1 story titled Balance, we get to see what the Jedi Master was like before the events in the Clone Wars (via StarWars.com). Qui-Gon and his Padawan learner Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent to the planet Bri'n to help solve a conflict between the Priestess of the Wood and the Metal Clan. The situation reveals Qui-Gon's outlook on the Jedi becoming "weapons of the Republic" instead of real peacekeepers, something that he points out to Yoda.

One of the awesome things about the issue is a detailed illustration of Qui-Gon's Force vision, which is very similar to Luke Skywalker's own vision in Dagobah. Interestingly, the vision may have convinced the Jedi Master that weapons are not the answer and there is another way to bring balance to the Force.

The issue concludes with an ominous conversation between Yoda and Qui-Gon where Yoda asks, "The dark side consumes and there is no balance to be found in such a path. And what is our purpose if not balance?" The exchange may have stayed with Qui-Gon until he met young Anakin and believed the boy could be the Chosen One who will eventually bring balance.

Star Wars: Age of Republic - Qui-Gon Jinn #1 was released by Marvel Comics on December 5.
