Star Wars Actor Anthony Daniels Says C-3PO Gets Spotlight In Episode IX

It looks like the endlessly chatty protocol droid C-3PO is going to play a significant role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

C-3PO has always been a constant in the Star Wars franchise, appearing in all of Lucasfilm's Star Wars entries except Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, the droid doesn't do very much in some films, appearing at times as an accessory or as comic relief. Now, the gold-plated droid is going to take center stage in the final entry in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy.

Speaking in an interview with ET Canada during the 2019 D23 Expo last weekend, C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels decided to tease his role in Episode IX, saying that he'll have a lot to do in the Resistance's adventures in the movie.

"I'm front and center in this one, for a lot of it, and that made me feel very happy and very excited. Because the stuff we do is magic, the inventiveness, superb," the Star Wars actor told the publication. "And so for me, and for Threepio, this is a very good bye-bye moment. Enjoy."

As heartbreaking as it might be to hear that C-3PO may have to say farewell in Episode IX, it shouldn't come as a surprise to the fanbase. After all, C-3PO has always been tied to the Skywalker story and The Rise of Skywalker is supposed to serve as the culmination of the saga.

All good things must come to an end, even C-3PO's time in the Star Wars franchise.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
