Star Wars Ackbar Actor Reveals The Last Jedi Death Scene Was Filmed And Why It Ended Up Being Cut

Ackbar actor Tim Rose has recently revealed that a death scene was filmed for the character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

A lot of Star Wars fans believe that Admiral Ackbar should've gotten a proper death scene in the film. Instead, he died offscreen, which they think was pretty disrespectful for a character this popular, an opinion that Rose seems to share.

In an interview with YouTuber and Star Wars fan Jamie Stangroom, Rose revealed that after he did the lines, stuntmen wearing fireproof suits were brought in to film a scene where Ackbar and a couple more characters being thrown through the glass and into outer space after their ship was hit. He revealed that filming the scene was so dangerous that everybody had to leave the set. He said that it looked "spectacular."

Unfortunately, as fans know, this scene didn't make the final cut of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. As to why it was left in the cutting room floor, he thought that it may have been too crazy or ridiculous. He told Stangroom, "I'm not privy to the editing side of things but having seen it for real, I suspect that, they looked at it and went, 'Oh my god, what have we just done?'"

Rose did admit that he was disappointed that Ackbar only got a verbal death. He hen went on to reveal that he also had more scenes in Star Wars: The Force Awakens that ended up being scrapped from the film, something that he wasn't really happy about considering this was the first time he was revisiting the role after 30 years. The actor always hoped that the character will get material that's more "involving," which didn't happen.

What even hurt him is that after filming his final scene as Ackbar in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, he didn't get a thank you for dedicating decades to the character. Instead, he was simply asked to conclude the filming for that day by saying "It's a wrap" as a play to his most iconic line, "It's a trap." Rose admitted he was in tears behind the suit thinking that this "big joke" was the "sum total" of his life as Ackbar.
