Star Wars Ackbar Actor Reveals Harrison Ford Tried To Get Him Fired Before

Tim Rose, known for playing the role of Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, has recalled a story during filming of the movie about how he pissed off Harrison Ford he wanted him fired.

In the film, Rose puppeteered Salacious Crumb, who appears in the Return of the Jedi scene where Ford's Han Solo thaws out and escapes the cabornite. Part of that sequence was Leia kissing Han as she welcomes him back. During the first take, Rose revealed in an interview with Star Wars fan and YouTuber Jamie Stangroom during a video chat interview that they were teasing them by saying stuff like "We saw you kissing" in a singsong tone the first time they filmed the scene.

Ford apparently approached director Richard Marquand to ask him if the puppet characters are supposed to talk over him during the scene because he didn't want to go back to record his line. They did the scene again but this time Rose and the other puppeteers were asked not to make any noise.

While preparing for the third take, the director approached Salacious and asked him about what he thought. In character, Rose mocked Ford. "This Harrison guy, is he going to talk over our laugh cause it's really putting me off," Rose joked. He didn't realize that what he said was broadcasted to the whole floor, which meant Ford heard it. He recalled that the crew found it funny, but not the actor.

Ford then left the set and vowed not to return unless the person who said it is fired from the production. When he was approached, Rose asked if it was possible to apologize, but ultimately, they followed Ford's request. In truth, Rose stayed on and was simply asked pretend he was the replacement.

"I've always wanted to apologize to him for telling the story because Harrison Ford is a great guy and I just happened to misread the sense of humor and do the wrong thing at the wrong time," Rose clarified.

He wanted to do just that when filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but he didn't get the chance to do it since the only time he met Ford was when he was wearing the Ackbar costume, which he said makes it impossible for him to converse with anybody.
