Lucasfilm might have scheduled a Star Wars film for December 2022, but Star Wars fans shouldn't expect that date to go to the movie that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing for the galaxy far, far away.

Earlier this year, Disney revealed that it had set aside release dates for untitled Star Wars films in December 2022, 2024, and 2026. Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the first installment of Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Star Wars trilogy was assigned to the first slot in December 2022. However, now that the two have decided to exit from their Star Wars project, fans are expecting the date to go to someone else.

Unfortunately, this date won't be for Feige. The Hollywood Reporter just recently wrote a detailed piece about Weiss and Benioff's exit and according to the entertainment news outlet, it seems rather unlikely that Feige's Star Wars movie is going to get the December 2022 date.

Though the site didn't offer that much insider information about the Star Wars slot, we think that it's hard to expect Feige to try for a 2022 Star Wars release date knowing that he has so much on his plate over at Marvel. Not only is Feige preoccupied with Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he has also been recently named the Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment. That means he has a whole lot of responsibility now over at Marvel.

Though fans might be a bit disappointed that the 2022 release date won't go to Feige, it wouldn't really hurt to wait. There are still a lot of Star Wars movies to look forward to.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
