Star Wars Could Find Difficulty Hiring Directors After Multiple Firings

It looks like the recent exit of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss from their planned Star Wars trilogy might cause more trouble for the franchise. A new report suggests that the firing of multiple directors could mean that Star Wars will have difficulty finding filmmakers who are willing to helm their movies.

It was previously reported that the Game of Thrones showrunners announced their exit from their Star Wars trilogy. Although Benioff and Weiss stated that it was because of their hectic schedule, various reports pointed out that the duo left due to creative differences. Not surprisingly, this has led to speculations that the real problem could be with Disney and Lucasfilm.

Variety reports that several sources from "talent agencies" have pointed out that "top filmmakers may become wary of working on the series, particularly if the end result will be an embarrassing dismissal." Although it seems like an understandable reaction now that Benioff and Weiss have abandoned their Star Wars project, there is little doubt that directors would still be eager to work on a high-profile movie if given the chance.

Benioff and Weiss are not the only creative talents who have left a Star Wars project. Josh Trank was reportedly fired from what is believed to be a Boba Fett movie while Phil Lord and Chris Miller were asked to leave halfway through the production of Solo: A Star Wars Story. In addition to that, Colin Trevorrow was supposed to direct Episode IX before being replaced by J.J. Abrams.

For now, the future of Benioff and Weiss' project is unclear. In the meantime, fans can expect to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20.
