Star Trek’s Jean-Luc Picard Gets New Story Set 20 Years Before The Next Generation

Now that Patrick Stewart is getting his very own Star Trek series on CBS All Access, it looks like fans are going to get the chance to know more about Jean-Luc Picard's life and history 20 years before he became Captain of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

According to ComicBook.com, IDW Publishing just announced the arrival of a special one-shot issue that brings fans back to the time when Picard used to command the USS Stargazer. Written by Peter David and illustrated by JK Woodward, the Star Trek: IDW 20/20 offers Star Trek fans to know more about Picard before they see him return to the franchise on CBS All Access.

The synopsis for the one-shot comic reads:

"Twenty years before he took command of theU.S.S. Enterprise-D, Jean-Luc Picard sat in the captain's chair of theU.S.S. Stargazer. Picard served with distinction aboard theStargazerfor many years on his way to becoming the most respected captain in Starfleet. But in this early mission, Picard shows us a vulnerable side as well as glimpses of the brilliant tactician he would become."

IDW Publishing also released the cover of the comic, showing a picture of a younger Picard sitting on the captain's chair of the USS Stargazer with Beverly and Jack Crusher (Wesley Crusher's parents) standing by his left and right side.

The Star Trek one-shot comic is part of the publication's IDW 20/20 weekly event celebrating the company's 20th Anniversary.
