Star Trek Producers Are Planning Even More New Series For CBS

It looks like Trekkies are having a pretty great year this year. Not only is Patrick Stewart making his way back to the Star Trek franchise as Jean-Luc Picard in his very own Star Trek series, but it looks Star Trek heads like Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin are planning on making, even more, shows based on the iconic science fiction franchise.

Speaking in an interview with Trek Movie during this year's New York Comic Con, Kurtzman, the co-creator of Star Trek: Discovery and the head of expanding Star Trek's television franchise teased that fans are going to hear a lot of more news about more upcoming Star Trek television series in the future.

According to Star Trek producer Heather Kadin, Star Trek television's goal is to make sure that the team avoids franchise fatigue by giving each series distinct texture and flavor, making each show stand out from the others.

"I think the one thing we can say which is more general is that it's been a real conscious effort that every project we do have its own voice and occupy its own space," Kadin explained. "I don't mean its own space in canon, I mean its own tonal vision. Because you shouldn't tune in to Discovery and wonder if you flipped the channel, that it was Picard. They should feel different, they should have different messages coming from different people."

Right now there isn't any word as to how many series Kadin and Kurtzman plan to create for Star Trek, however, what we do know is that fans have a whole lot more to look forward to aside from a new season of Star Trek: Discovery and the premiere of Stewart's new show. We can't wait to hear more of what the team has planned for the franchise.

Star Trek: Discovery season 2 is set to premiere on CBS All-Access on January 17, 2019.
