Star Trek: Picard Showrunner Says Series Will Take a Different Direction in Season 2

There is little doubt that Trekkies are already looking forward to Star Trek: Picard Season 2 after the show's explosive finale. But what can we expect in the upcoming season? Showrunner Michael Chabon has just stated that the next chapter of Jean-Luc Picard's story will be taking a completely different direction.

Chabon recently spoke to Variety about the show and the Season 1 showrunner teased on what fans will see in the next season.

"It's going to be different in some way," Chabon said. "It's definitely going to go in directions that we didn't see in Season 1."

The showrunner was also quick to point out that the fan reaction to the series ensured an exciting new direction in the second season.

"I think we've been emboldened in many ways by the popularity of the show. I've only done this once, but I would imagine it's probably true for a lot of television shows especially in this era: Season 1 was in many respects about learning how to make Star Trek: Picard. Both in a production sense, but also in terms of storytelling and who our cast is, how these characters end up forming surprising links and attachments to each other," Chabon said.

Although we're still trying to figure out what will happen now that Picard and the crew of La Sirena are off to pursue some cool new adventure, there's one thing we know for sure: Chabon will not be taking control of Season 2. For now, the new showrunner has not yet been announced but we'll keep you updated on this story.

The first season of Star Trek: Picard is currently available for streaming for free on CBS All Access.
