Star Trek: Picard Just Hinted at Will Riker Returning to Starfleet

The latest episode of Star Trek: Picard has finally brought in Will Riker and it looks like we could see more of the character in the future. Nepenthe may have hinted at Jean-Luc Picard's former First Officer admitting he is ready to return to Starfleet.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers from Star Trek: Picard Episode 7. Proceed with caution!

In Nepenthe, Picard and Soji Asha head off to the titular planet to hide and hopefully get some advice from an old friend. Picard brings Soji to Riker's home where he and wife Deanna Troi are already living a peaceful life with their daughter Kestra (who is named after and even looks like Deanna's sister). Kestra helps Soji find herself slowly while Picard reconnects with Riker.

The conversation between Picard and Riker has the two men reminiscing their time together. At one point, Picard asks if his friend still wants to return to Starfleet and it is revealed that Riker is actually still on active reserve. However, he points out that it would take a truly special reason for him to decide to get back into the action.

So does this mean that Riker will soon be returning to Starfleet? After all, he could be that one person who could help Picard figure things out at Starfleet. On the other hand, Riker might not be ready to leave behind his peaceful life. Perhaps the truth will be revealed in the next episode of Picard.

The seventh episode of Star Trek: Picard is titled Nepenthe and is currently streaming on CBS All Access.
