We didn't want it to happen but it was inevitable. The latest episode of Star Trek: Picard has revealed what happened to Hugh after he helped Jean-Luc Picard and Soji Asha escape in The Impossible Box.

WARNING: The following contains Star Trek: Picard Episode 7 spoilers. Proceed with caution!

In Nepenthe, it didn't take long before the Borg realized what happened with Picard and Soji. Naturally, Narissa wasn't happy with Hugh after he gave the two a chance to escape. Still, there's something standing in her way: Elnor, who chose to stay behind in the Borg Cube perhaps because he sensed that Hugh will be needing his help as well.

Sadly, there's not much that Elnor can do here. Narissa still manages to kill Hugh because he believes that he and Elnor are plotting to take the Artifact away from the Romulans. Luckily, Elnor manages to summon help through the SOS pin Picard left with him and gets rescued by none other than Seven of Nine.

It's unfortunate that Hugh did not survive long in Picard after everything that he has been through in the franchise. One of the things that we are truly unhappy about is that Jonathan Del Arco's character died alone and without any of his old friends around him. Nevertheless, it was a risk that needed to be taken to help Picard and we're hoping that Hugh's sacrifice will be worth it in the end.

Star Trek: Picard Episode 7 is currently streaming on CBS All Access.
