Star Trek: Jack Quaid on Lower Decks' Boimler Becoming Captain

There is little doubt that Star Trek: Lower Decks focuses on the unsung heroes of Starfleet. But is it possible that the lower decks crew could eventually find themselves on the bridge? Jack Quaid has commented on Bradwick Boimler's potential as captain in the next few seasons of the animated series.

Quaid plays Boimler, a command division junior officer assigned to USS Cerritos. In Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 1, Boimler was under Captain Carol Freeman. However, fans believe that he could move up to become a captain as well.

So what are the chances that Boimler will be moving up in life soon? Quaid told Comicbook.com that although his character has the ambition, he's just not the best guy to be captain.

"I hate the break it to Boimler. I don't know if he's captain material. I know he wants it so bad, but he's why. I just don't think he knows how to make snap judgment decisions," Quaid said. He then added that Boimler might have a better chance in a different position.

"I think, realistically, I think he's an amazing, and I'm talking amazing, first officer, once he gets over himself," Quaid said. "He's a great Number One, once he gets over his anxieties, I think. Because he's logical, he goes by the book. He'll tell the captain when they're going overboard."

Interestingly, Quaid continued by pointing out that Boimler could be an excellent Number One for Beckett Mariner, who would make a better Captain.

"I think Mariner is captain and Boimler is number one. I think that that's a perfect combo, but yeah, I don't know about captain in his future. I don't see it," he said.

Although it's unlikely that Boimler will eventually become captain of the series, there is little doubt that he will continue to play a major role in the future of Lower Decks.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2 is set to premiere on Paramount+ in August 2021.
