There is little doubt that there are a lot of exciting new Star Trek shows in development right now. But are we still getting the planned Section 31 series that was supposed to serve as one of the spin-offs for Star Trek: Discovery? Shazad Latif has just shared an update on the project.
The possibility of a Section 31 spin-off series was teased in the final episode of Star Trek: Discovery Season 2. In the episode, Latif's Ash Tyler was recruited into the organization. This would mean that Tyler could play a huge role in the new show.
So is the spinoff still happening? Latif recently spoke to Digital Spy to promote his new project The Pursuit of Love. However, the Discovery star also commented on what is happening for the Series 31 series.
"It's just been slight yeses, slight questions, but I've no idea. I think it's down to people's schedules," Latif said.
It certainly sounds like the series is still being developed. However, Latif may have suggested that it isn't moving forward yet because some of the major players have busy schedules. Although he didn't specify, there is a possibility that Latif is referring to co-star Michelle Yeoh and executive producer Alex Kurtzman.
For now, the Section 31 series has not yet been given an official production start date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
