Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Teases a New Type of Villain

With season 3 wrapping up just a few weeks ago, there is no halt for Star Trek: Discovery as the fourth season is underway with new challenges for the crew, and not only that, a new type of villain is joining the story as confirmed by showrunner Alex Kurtzman.

The big bad of the Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 is hinted something that is not part of the living, neither a breathing entity, but something else. Kurtzman tried to be cryptic as to what the villain of season 4 will be as it is not a who.

Kurtzman added that they are diving deep into science for the fourth season in an interesting way. It seems that the main adversary for the fourth season will be a much larger threat than what has transpired in the previous seasons.

Michael Burnham will also ascend into captaincy as confirmed by Kurtzman. In the two-part Season 3 finale, the captain's chair was handed over to Burnham as Saru returns to Kaminar.

As the new captain of the U.S.S. Discovery, Burnham will be tested throughout the series where she would be having a lot of time to think whether she would be one thing or the other. Burnham will have to figure it out. This ascent of Burnham will also test Burnham's relationship with Book.

Burnham will have to continue doing things her way at the same time, continue to fight for what is right.

Kurtzman also revealed that new cultures will be brought in for the 32nd-century Federation even when it is not yet completely pieced together. The fourth season will revolve around bringing other worlds and what it takes to be a member of the Federation without having to take away the identity of the other cultures.

The fourth season is Star Trek: Discovery is currently filming and is in the third month of its production. It is likely to be released sometime in late 2021 or early 2020. Seasons 1 to 3 is available online for streaming via Netflix.
