Star Trek: Colm Meaney Reveals How Chief Miles O'Brien Could Appear in Picard Season 2

One of the best things about Star Trek: Picard has been the return of beloved characters like Jean-Luc Picard, Data, and Seven of Nine. But is there a chance that another character from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will show up in the new series? Colm Meaney addressed the possibility of returning as Chief Miles O'Brien in the show's second season.

Meaney recently spoke to CBR where he was asked if he would be interested in playing Chief O'Brien again in Picard Season 2. However, it sounded like Meaney doesn't want to revisit the role any time soon.

"No, I've always kind of felt like seven years in space was long enough," Meaney said. "I had a great time doing it. And sometimes, you're always a bit loathe to go back, especially with something that you enjoyed and was successful because going back, sometimes things end up being ruined."

Although he isn't eager to reprise his role just yet, Meaney was quick to point out that he is still open to the idea of appearing in the Patrick Stewart series.

"You never say never. I know there's a lot of intrigue and that Patrick is doing his new series now, and so, who knows? But it's not something that's ever been sort of in the forefront of my mind to go back and reprise O'Brien," Meaney said.

Meaney first played Chief O'Brien in Star Trek: The Next Generation before heading off to lead in Deep Space Nine. The character has gone through a lot in these shows and we'd still love to see more of O'Brien. However, his return would still be up to Meaney.

The second season of Star Trek: Picard Season 2 is currently in production and Meaney's DS9 co-star Jeri Ryan has been confirmed to return as Seven of Nine. The new season has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
