Star-Lord and Co. Look More Comic Book-Accurate in Guardians of the Galaxy Concept Art

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stuck in a James Gunn-less limbo, fans have wondered what the future holds for this final installment. Marvel and Disney seemingly want to move on from Gunn after the firing, with the former Guardians director now working on a Suicide Squad movie that may or may not be a sequel. As we wait for further news, it might be a good time to reminisce about the older Guardians films, which is what this concept artist did.

On Instagram, Marvel Studios concept artist Charlie Wen decided to share some concept art from the very first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Not only are the costumes represented radically different from the movie we know and love, but they are also more faithful to the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy comic book from Danny Abnett and Andy Lanning, often coined as DnA by the fans.

Though not too different from the characters personality-wise, the costumes that are seen here give the team a more superhero-like identity, given the matching designs and colors. While this was fine for the DnA run, it's easy to see why these costumes were ditched. Simply put, the suits we see them in during the first movie give them more personality.

Still, it would have been neat seeing them don these costumes for a quick easter egg or two. The comics have since followed what the movies have put out, giving Star-Lord his now signature trench coat and tape player. It has led to some good stories, especially the most recent run from Gerry Duggan, which is about to end with Infinity Wars.

No one is sure about the fate of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Rumors say that the film will film in either 2020 or 2021.
