MCU Star Frank Grillo Says Marvel's Next Captain America Could Be African-American Or Female

With Chris Evans' Marvel Cinematic Universe contract coming to an end, fans have long since been speculating the possible death of Captain America in Avengers 4. It might be heartbreaking knowing that the First Avenger might die in the sequel to Infinity War, but it doesn't seem farfetched to imagine Cap sacrificing his life to bring back all the lives that Thanos had massacred with his "snappening."

Now, as Avengers 4 approaches its release date, fans have begun throwing around the names of potential Captain America replacements and it looks like MCU veteran Frank Grillo's joined the fray.

Speaking in an interview with Larry King Now, the actor who's played the part of Hydra agent crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War was asked whether he knew who'd take up Steven's mantle in the MCU.

"I don't know," he admitted, "but there've been rumors that [the next] Captain America could be African-American. It could be a woman. You know? So they're looking."

Knowing how important Captain America is to the MCU, Marvel may have decided on Steve's successor already. Though Marvel's kept mum about its plans for the First Avenger, there's a strong possibility that the studio could select the next Captain America from its pool of existing heroes in the franchise. In the comics, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes took on the mantle on separate occasions. Meanwhile, in an alternate reality, the role went to Peggy Carter.

Who do you think could become the next Captain America? Could it be Sebastian Stan's Bucky? Maybe it could even go to Shuri (based on Grillo's comments). Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Avengers 4 hits cinemas May 3, 2019.
