Stan Lee's Alternate Lines In Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Revealed

One of the best things about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was the late Stan Lee's awesome cameo as a shop owner who sold Miles Morales a Spider-Man costume. Although we wouldn't change anything about that scene, Lee actually recorded several alternate lines for the film.

Into The Spider-Verse co-director Rodney Rothman was recently a part of the animated film's VUDU viewing party on Twitter. Interestingly, Rothman revealed a few of the lines that Lee recorded in response to Miles trying to buy the costume.

"Other lines we recorded with Stan Lee: 1) I can't believe it. I didn't think Spider-Man could die. 2) Why this stuff sells, I'll never know. 3) Always thought he'd outlive me. But he loved the line we used," Rothman wrote.

All of the mentioned lines are certainly awesome but it's the third one that truly has a bittersweet appeal. After all, Lee passed away in November 2018, just a little over a month before the premiere of Spider-Verse. Nevertheless, we're glad that Rothman and his co-directors chose the perfect lines for the theatrical cut.

In Lee's Spider-Verse scene, the shop owner looks at the Spider-Man costume when Miles places it on the counter and says, "I'm ... going to miss him." He then lightens up a bit by adding, "We were friends, you know." When Miles asks, "Can I return it if it doesn't fit?" the shop owner confidently replies, "It always fits. Eventually," before giving the boy a knowing smile.

The line actually makes sense as Miles finally embraces his Spider-Man persona later on in the film. Needless to say, we really have to thank Stan the Man for telling him the costume always fits.

Lee is expected to have yet another cameo in Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters on April 26.
