Squid Game Used Actual Humans For Painted Figures Next To VIPs — How Much Were They Paid?

Squid Game is so popular that it became the first Korean series to top Netflix globally. For those who have watched the hit survival streaming TV series, you probably noticed the painted figures in Episode 7.

Those figures were actual humans — they were paid extras! A YouTuber shared that she was invited to take on one of those painted figures roles and she almost took it.

Raye from YouTube channel Raye and Jin were inspired by Squid Game so they talked about it. According to Raye, an American who is currently based in Korea, her family watched Squid Game even if they do not usually watch series with subtitles, which showed that the show was really good. However, there is something that irked her about the show.

"But I'm pissed about this show," she said.

She gave a background on why she felt that way. According to her, foreigners, like her, in Korea have a lot of opportunities to do modeling, TV shows, commercials, movies and other stuff like that. Many contact them even if they do not exert any effort.

In October 2020, she was contacted for a role for a TV series, but she let it pass. The recruiter told Raye that she could not wear a bra due to the bodypainting. However, they would use nipple stickers instead. She was also informed that her entire face and body would be painted, but she could wear underwear.

She was assured that the role would not be sexual. It would also be non-speaking.

She was also offered full accommodations, meals and pick-up services. However, she refused politely because she found it shady.

According to Raye, had she accepted the role, they would have paid her 5,000,000 KRW ($4243 USD). Filming would only take three days of her time.

Raye expressed regret for turning the role down after realizing that it was for Squid Game. The agent who talked to her did not name the show. She admitted that she turned it down because it sounded shady. But, if she had known that it was for Squid Game, she would have taken it.

Netflix has also used a real phone number on the show. The owner of the phone number has been receiving thousands of pranks calls daily after his digits were exposed on the series. Netflix has already contacted the man and they have been working on a resolution.

Netflix has not renewed Squid Game for Season 2 yet. However, there are already a lot of predictions for the yet-to-be-confirmed second installment. There are rumors that Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung Jae), player no. 456, will learn that Oh Il-nam (Oh Yeong-su), player no. 001, is his biological father.
