Squid Game Star Spills Plot Details on Season 2

The Korean series Squid Game became the biggest original series of all time on Netflix as it garnered billion hours of views and won several accolades including an Emmy Award for its lead star Lee Jung-jae and director Hwang Dong-hyuk. Now that a second season is officially on its way along with plans for spinoffs, there is no doubt that they are setting it as the next big franchise.

So far, the team behind the series is keeping mum on the details regarding the upcoming seasons although we know that it will address some of the mysteries that were left unanswered during the first season such as the cliffhanger where Gi-hun decided to stay in Korea instead of boarding the plane to America.

In a recent interview with Ilgan Sports (via allkpop), Lee shared some details about the plans that they have in store for the second season. While he played coy in terms of the story, he did reveal the themes that they are going to explore as well as its main key figures.

"It's probably safe to assume that. As we all saw at the end of season 1, the main plot of season 2 will be revenge, and the key figure who controlled the workings of the games in season 1 was Lee Byung Hun sunbae, so it seems that the two of us will be the central figures of this next story," he said.

"This is the first time that I'll be working with Lee Byung Hun sunbae, actually. Well, we worked on a drama called White Nights 3.98 back in the day, but we didn't have any scenes together."

Lee also revealed that they are planning to begin filming the second season later this year and production may take longer due to its "bigger" scope.

The Emmy-winning actor added, "Anyways, Squid Game 2 will begin filming in the summer and the filming will likely last for about 10 months. We were working on season 1 for about 10 months as well, but that was with delays caused by COVID-19. But seeing as season 2 will be bigger in scale, it will probably take longer to complete."

It is exciting to hear these details about the upcoming second season as fans worldwide are anticipating seeing what's next for Gi-hun and how he may take down the system. For now, let's just sit back, wait for its release, and speculate on what could happen in the season.
