Squid Game took the world by storm when it was released on Netflix in 2021, and with Season 2 of the series officially confirmed, Netflix is expanding the franchise into the world of reality TV. 456 players will battle it out for a huge cash prize, and ofcourse, unlike the South Korean show that inspired it, the consequences of losing the games will not be deadly.
The new reality show will be called Squid Game: The Challenge, and it was first announced by Bela Bajaria, Netflix's head of global TV, at the Banf World Media Festival. She said that Netflix would be producing the "biggest reality competition ever," by bringing Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk's ideas into the real world.
Here's what Brandon Reid, Netflix's Vice President of the unscripted and documentary series, said about the announcement:
Squid Game took the world by storm with [director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s] captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment. Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest-ever cash prize at the end.

Squid Game: The Challenge Release Date: When is the reality show coming to Netflix?
The Squid Game reality show doesn't have a release date yet.
It'll probably take some time before Netflix announces an official release date for Squid Game: The Challenge since the reality show hasn't started production yet. However, the good news is that open casting is available for English speakers worldwide.
English is not required to be your first language, but to apply for the competition, you need to be able to speak and understand English.
We double-checked the schedule of movies and TV shows coming to Netflix in October 2022, and it doesn't include Squid Game: The Challenge.
What is the cash prize for Squid Game: The Challenge?
Just like the show, Squid Game: The Challenge will feature 456 players competing in a series of games. When Netflix announced the reality show, the cash prize is confirmed to be $4.56 million USD. While this is much less than the original show's ₩45.6 billion ($33 million USD), it's the biggest cash prize in reality TV history.
It's still unclear if Squid Game: The Challenge's $4.56 million cash prize will be split or if it will only be awarded to the ultimate winner, but since the reality show is not expected to kill anyone, there's probably a good chance that more than one player will receive consolation cash prizes.
Squid Game: The Challenge Trailer: Did Netflix already release trailer for the upcoming reality show?
Since production for Squid Game: The Challenge hasn't started yet, it'll probably take a while before Netflix releases a full trailer for the reality show, but an announcement video was released to hype up the fans, and remind them that they could join.

Squid Game: The Challenge Games: Will have the same games as the show?
The first season of the original Squid Game series included the following games:
- Recruiter's Game: Ddakji. ...
- Round 1: Red Light, Green Light. ...
- Round 2: Dalgona/Ppopgi. ...

- Round 5: The Glass Tile Game. ...
- Final Round: Squid Game.
Netflix hasn't revealed if these same games will be played in Squid Game: The Challenge, but obviously, players will not be killed in Squid Game: The Challenge. It's likely that they will be eliminated in a similar way to how YouTuber Mr. Beast's 25-minute Squid Game reality video, in which 456 contestants competed for $456,000. You can expect masked guards in red jumpsuits to enforce the rules of the game.
Where will Squid Game: The Challenge be filmed?
Netflix already confirmed that Squid Game: The Challenge will be filmed in the United Kingdom, and will be a co-production between Studio Lambert and The Garden. Studio Lambert's producers include Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, and Toni Ireland. The Garden's producers are John Hay, Nicola Hill, and Nicola Brown.
