Squid Game has only been around for one season, yet the Korean series already bombarded Hollywood awards shows by scoring nominations despite being a non-English language flick.

The past months have been fruitful for the hit Korean series since it first arrived on Netflix. Its bloody children’s games stirred viewers’ curiosity and stomachs, as the flick’s players contest in pursuit of winning the $38.6 million prize.

It has been receiving critical acclaim from different review aggregators after drawing 111 million households 17 days after its release and over 142 million after its first 28 days. Although Hellbound has already replaced it as the most-watched series on the platform, Squid Game remains on top of its game that it still receives recognitions no Korean series ever got so far.

Squid Game Reaches SAG Awards

The 28th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards officially announced this year’s nominees on Wednesday, and Squid Game swept categories in the most commendable way possible.

Out of all the nominees, Squid Game is the first and only non-English language TV series to ever appear on the awards show’s list. It follows Parasite’s reign, becoming the first foreign-language film to win the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture back in 2020.

This time, the Korean series scored a spot on SAG’s Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series – the top prize in the drama category. Squid Game is up against The Handmaid’s Tale, The Morning Show, Succession, and Yellowstone.
