Squid Game received another historic milestone before its first-year anniversary celebration.
On Sep. 17, 2021, the Hwang Dong Hyuk-directed hit series arrived on Netflix. The survival drama immediately set new records upon its arrival, beating Bridgerton as the most-watched show on the platform.
The series did not stop there as Squid Game received — and is still receiving — acknowledgement and awards from different award-giving bodies all over the world.
Most recently, it made another record no Korean series has ever made so far.

Squid Game Day in Los Angeles Declared
On Sep. 9, Lee Jung Jae and director Hwang Dong Hyuk met Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Council Member John Lee at the Los Angeles City Hall as part of the declaration of Squid Game Day.
The resolution shared by the LA City Council (via Korea JoongAngDaily) states that Sep. 17 of every year will be considered as Squid Game Day. The team received a certificate in front of Los Angeles City Hall.

The day was declared before this year's Sep. 17, which would mark the first anniversary of its premiere.
"Squid Game marks another victory in the fight to grow the representation of the AAPI community in film and entertainment, exposing audiences to Korean culture and traditions while paving the way for other AAPI communities to also have their stories told," the resolution reads.
Squid Game Might Also Break Emmys History
On top of this, Squid Game might also bring home more whopping awards, including the become the first foreign-language television show to bring home top awards for best drama from Emmys.
It officially became the first non-English-language series to secure a spot in the best drama series' list of nominees. If it wins the award, Squid Game will follow HBO's Succession. According to Deadline awards columnist Pete Hammond (per France24), Squid Game might be able to do that despite Succession's 25 nominations.
He also shared his thoughts about Lee Jung Jae potentially scoring the best actor from the award-giving body.
