Squid Game continues to collect fortunes, although its stint as the most-watched series on Netflix has been cut short.

The phenomenal Korean hit series arrived on Netflix and changed the game for all the flicks on the website. Although it enjoyed being number 1 for a short time only, Squid Game managed to become people’s favorite that it still garners honors and recognitions from different award-giving bodies – and it hit the stage once again.

Squid Game Dominates Golden Globe Awards

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) unveiled the list of categories and nominees on Monday.

The Korean Netflix original made it to three categories -- Best TV Series-Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series-Drama, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role on TV. Squid Game competes against several TV series for the award, going against Lupin, The Morning Show, Pose, and Succession.

Meanwhile, the series’ lead star Lee Jung Jae contests against Succession’s Brian Cox and Jeremy Cox and Pose’s Billy Porter and Lupin’s Omar Sy.

Squid Game became the first South Korean TV show to be part of the accolade, which has been treated as an essential factor for those nominated in the Academy Awards. Whether or not the Korean TV series passes the requirement and becomes a winner would be determined on January 9.

More Nods For Squid Game

The Golden Globe is just one of the Squid Game’s firsts.

Previously, it became the first Korean series to receive a nomination – and won – in the annual Gotham Awards in New York. It received a nomination for Breakthrough Series – Over 40 Minutes and Lee Jung Jae for Outstanding Performance in a New Series.

Squid Game brought home the Breakthrough Series award, while Lee Jung Jae lost his chance to The Good Lord Bird’s Ethan Hawke and The Underground Railroad’s Thusa Mbedu.

Squid Game will surely garner more recognition once the time of the awards nights starts.
