Like an RKO from outta nowhere, Square Enix has decided to bamboozle everyone by releasing the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo with no prior announcement beforehand. Fans can download the demo now on their PlayStation 4 and check out the first hour of the game, which is the classic bombing run mission everyone has seen by now. It's good stuff so if you're one of the many people looking forward to this game, definitely check the demo out.
The demo starts like the OG Final Fantasy VII, with Aerith praying over some stray mako energy, though this time she runs away from something we can't see. We then cut to that classic bombing run mission and players then take control of Cloud, as he decimates some of the grunts that get in his way. We also get to interact with Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge for a bit.
We see a couple of subtle changes from the original as the demo goes on. Jessie is much more flirty with Cloud than she was in the original game, which is a nice bit. There are also a couple of new sequences where players have to escape some laser traps. Some new turret enemies also get in your way, making it essential to switch to Barrett so you can take them down.
Gameplay-wise, it controls a bit like Kingdom Hearts but harder. The enemies are mostly easy to take down but a couple of them, like the dogs and robots, can take a large number of hits before going down. You can sap away at their stamina so that they stop moving, which is a satisfying feeling.
Final Fantasy VII Remake demo is now available for download on the PS4. Final Fantasy VII Remake will be coming out on April 10.
