Spiral: Chris Rock Stars in Trailer for Next Installment in SAW Franchise

It had been reported last year that Chris Rock was going to star in a ‘reboot' for Saw, and the movie is set to hit theaters this May. What's cool is, we now have our first teaser for Spiral, the next chapter in the SAW franchise.

Here's the official description:

A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city's gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer's morbid game.

Seeing that the SAW franchise basically devolved into a torture porn series, it would be interesting to see just how Rock will treat this supposed reboot/sequel. Besides the signature "traps," it looks like we'll be delving into the mystery of it all, with Detective Banks trying to solve who's behind all the spirals.

What are the odds that Samuel L. Jackson's character was the bad guy this whole time?

With Jordan Peele and John Krasinski proving themselves proficient with the horror genre despite their comedy backgrounds, I'm interested to see what Rock has to bring to this franchise. Hopefully, it's a fresh entry and not just a film filled with tired horror tropes.

Catch Spiral when it hits theaters May 15.
