Spider-Verse 2 Producer Reveals Intriguing Central Storyline

Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has a promising storyline. Not only has it teased the appearances of multiple Spider-Man variants, and possibly even Tom Holland’s MCU Peter Parker version, but the core focus of the sequel is bound to be centralized around Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, as revealed by Spider-Verse 2 producer Amy Pascal.

“The danger with a sequel is to go bigger just for bigger’s sake. But all the bells and whistles are no good unless you care.” Pascal said in a recent interview with Empire Magazine, “The movie is a love story between Miles and Gwen.”

2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse already left a huge hint behind this developing storyline. The first Spider-Verse film may have focused on Miles finding his true power behind having super abilities, the first film had already teased a future romance sparking between Miles and Gwen.

That said, Pascal continued on to say: “There’s jealousy there [thanks to new Spider-Man variant, Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk]. When Miles meets Gwen again, she’s not wearing her ballet shoes; she’s wearing Converse Chuck Taylors, which Spider-Punk gave her. Miles starts wondering, ‘How close are these two?’”

While romance is surprisingly playing a major role in the Spider-Verse sequel, it isn’t something to sneeze at. In fact, this could only enhance and broaden Miles Morales’ horizons when it comes to dealing with his personal life versus his superhero alter-ego.

A complicated romance with an alternate version of your alter-ego and a girl you happened to know in school could result in more dire measures on preventing the multiverse from collapsing in your world.

There's also a likelihood of Miles' jealousy getting in the way of his superhero mission, as evidently shown in previous heroes whenever they get their life problems in the way of work. Seeing as Miles is going up against Jason Schwartzman's Spot, Miles and Gwen are going to have to work together if they want to defeat the new villain.

Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently slated to be released on June 2 this year.
