Spider-Man: No Way Home Projected to Beat Avengers: Infinity War's Box Office Record

Spider-Man: No Way Home is no doubt the biggest movie this year thanks to the high anticipation leading up to the release, the overwhelmingly positive responses from both audience and the critics, and the huge box office results during its opening weekend despite the pandemic. Now, it looks like it is set to beat the record of another MCU movie.

Deadline has reported that Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently estimated to earn between $257.64 to $260.6 million in its domestic opening weekend. If it does end up earning in those numbers, it will be the second-best domestic box office opening of all-time beating Avengers: Infinity War's record of $257.698 million. However, they are waiting first for Sony to officially call the new record.

It's a very impressive box office record given the current pandemic where there are a lot of people who are still not comfortable going back to movie theaters and there are theaters that are not running in full capacity. It does indicate that majority of the moviegoing audience flocked to the theaters as soon as the film was released due to its spoiler-heavy nature and it shows that there was huge anticipation and hype for the film. It's also likely that the positive word-of-mouth made more people interested to see the film as soon as possible.

The box office numbers have been struggling ever since movie theaters opened up again last year due to the pandemic and the fact that a lot of the general public was not yet ready to go to a crowded place. As vaccines started to roll out this year, the numbers have been slowly increasing although none of the films before No Way Home had an opening weekend of more than $100 million.

So what does Spider-Man: No Way Home's box office success means for the future of movie theaters? You can say that this could be the first of many films that will get an opening weekend of more than $100 million and it shows that the moviegoers are indeed comfortable to go out and watch in theaters. However, the rising cases of the Omicron variant might put that in limbo. It could also mean that people are only excited about the film and this just might be an isolated case where the general public is simply looking forward to seeing a new Spider-Man film.
