Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel and All-Woman Spinoff Already in the Works

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hasn't even hit theaters yet, but anyone who caught the movie has been calling it the best animated film of the year. Just in, Sony is already planning several spinoffs for the film, including an all-woman team-up.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Avatar: The Last Airbender director Joaquim Dos Santos has been tapped to direct a sequel to Spider-Verse. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are also expected to be involved creatively, but as of now, no official deal has been made.

Besides the sequel, there is also news of an all-woman team-up directed by Lauren Montgomery (Voltron); and the film will include the likes of Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, Spider-Girl, Silk, and Madame Web. I'm just curious why they didn't decide to include Peni Parker a.k.a. Sp//dr into that roster as well, seeing that she's in the Spider-Verse film.

Though Sony has made a lot of money with Venom, a lot of fans were not eager to see where that franchise is headed. The film was a critical bomb, and it seems to be paving the way for Spider-Man-less Spidey films like Morbius and Kraven the Hunter.

When it comes to Into the Spider-Verse though, fans are singing a completely different tune. Besides the impressive animation, the story is completely out of the box for the superhero genre, and it's promising an interesting multi-verse of Spider-Man characters that Venom just looked creatively stunted in comparison.

We don't know when the sequels and spinoffs will be coming out but catch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in theaters Dec. 14.
