It might be have managed to bring in a whole lot of great reviews during from fans and from critics, but it looks like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn't earning as much as one would hope this Christmas season.
According to Box Office Mojo,Into the Spider-Verse just swung its way past a worldwide total of $200 million during its first two and a half weeks in cinemas. Of this amount, the film raked in $100 million at the domestic box office, putting the film right behind Marry Poppins Returns, Bumble Bee, and of course, Aquaman, the DC Extended Universe's major earner.
Still, while $200 million might not seem like much, the film's already managed to earn some profit with Into the Spider-Verse reportedly using up a budget of a meager $90 million. If the film does manage to keep a leggy run at the box office, we might see Into the Spider-Verse earning up to $400 or $500 million at the end of its theatrical screening.
Sure, Into the Spider-Verse might not be as big a cinematic event as Aquaman, but it's been considered one of the best Spider-Man movies from Sony, earning a 97% fresh score from rotten tomatoes with most critics commending the film for its creative playfulness and for its fresh style. One critic even went as far as calling the film as a "triumph on a visual, sound, music, and storytelling level," naming Into the Spider-Verse something that "might just be the closest we ever come to a perfect comic book adaptation on the big screen."
