Spider-Man Homecoming: Flash Thompson Will Be More Of A ‘Friendly Rival’ Than Peter Parker’s Bully

In both Raimi and Webb Spider-Man universes, Peter Parker is always antagonized in school by his bully Flash Thompson. Flash will also be in Spider-Man: Homecoming played by Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), but Marvel has different plans for his character this time around.

In a short interview with Disney Channel, Tom Holland opens up:

"One of the main differences from the previous movies is that we don't really have a bully. His main rival is Flash. They have this really funny back-and-forth."

There's also a few clips of Peter and Flash interacting, and we also get some lines from Silicon Valley's Martin Starr. Check this video out:

This time around, instead of being a full-on physical bully, Flash Thompson looks to be one of the nerds, and is constantly antagonizing Peter with words instead of muscles. To be honest, I can imagine the jocks making fun of this Flash Thompson too.

I really like how Marvel is shaking things up with Spider-Man this time around. After the reboot failed to bring anything new or interesting to the character, Homecoming promises to bring Spidey back to his comic roots, but at the same time, make every character feel fresh and different.

Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out July 7.
