Jake Gyllenhaal's Quentin Beck certainly left a lasting impression as Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Since the character is known to be the Master of Illusion, it wouldn't be a surprise if he had faked his death in the movie, and it looks like Sony is even planning to bring back the character in the future.
According to The Illuminerdi, their sources claim that Sony wants Gyllenhaal back for a solo film. However, further details about this claim weren't revealed. The site suggested the theory that since Mysterio seems to have everything planned out from dying as a hero and letting the world know of Spider-Man's real identity, that he could have planned his death too.
Since the character's origin was pretty much summed up in Far From Home, it wouldn't make sense for Sony to do a solo film surrounding that story. Instead, there is also the possibility that the solo movie would show Mysterio's plans for revenge, or to mess with Peter Parker even more, or even make up a story where he gets back from the dead and poses as a hero once again.
Although it would be cool to see more of Mysterio's story, the site clarifies that this is a rumor. That being said, given Gyllenhaal's popularity, some fans would totally want to see the actor reprise his character in a solo film.
