Spider-Man: No Way Home ended on a bit of a somber note. Aside from the world forgetting him thanks to Doctor Strange's spell during the climax, Peter Parker is now living alone in an apartment in New York City and he is finally donning the classic Spider-Man suit.

A lot of fans have interpreted the ending of the trilogy as the actual beginning of Peter Parker's heroic journey in the MCU since he has overcome the usual canon events that make someone a Spider-Man.

So far, Marvel Studios and Sony have not officially announced their plans for the future of Spider-Man in the MCU although reports have already confirmed that a fourth movie is on its way.

One thing's for sure regarding Peter Parker's future is that he will be more or less like the character that we recognize from the comics since he is now a hero of his own without any assistance from Happy Hogan or any MCU heroes.

In the recently-released Spider-Man: No Way Home - The Art of the Movie book (via The Direct), director Jon Watts confirmed what fans have suspected about the ending of the film which is the indication that it is the beginning of Peter Parker's actual heroic journey as Spider-Man.

"When we were doing Homecoming, the discussions were always about how we do something that you haven't seen before with Peter Parker," he explained.

"That steers you down a couple different paths and leads you to doing things like having his best friend find out his identity, and having his aunt find out, and then, at the end of the last movie, having the whole world find out."

Watts continued, "So that was a fun thing to play with these new aspects. But in the end, you know, it was nice to be able to have everything coalesce into, at its essence, the simple story of Spider-Man. We just really all took our time telling the first issue of Spider-Man — that origin story."

Looking back at what Marvel Studios and Sony have done with the trilogy, it does make sense that they decided to take that direction in telling the origins of Peter Parker's Spider-Man in the MCU considering that they also have to make it different from the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield films.

The character's classic suit in the end also felt like their response from some of the critics regarding how Peter's suits were always more high-tech due to the backing of Stark Industries and it wasn't homemade like in the character's earlier years in the comics.

Nevertheless, it looks like the subsequent solo Spider-Man movies in the MCU will now feel more classical since Peter is on his own now and they could take a direction where he is actually the friendly neighborhood hero that we've always associated him with.
