One of the biggest surprises that they have is Donald Glover's surprise live-action cameo as the Prowler. The Emmy-winning actor previously played the villain's real identity Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming although it remains to be seen yet whether they are the same version.

What makes it more impressive is that Glover's cameo appearance was not leaked at all and it became a genuine surprise to fans. A lot of them wondered how they were able to successfully pull off the shocking move.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller explained the behind-the-scenes story behind Glover's surprise live-action cameo appearance in the film.

Lord revealed that they directly reached out to the actor to make an appearance in the film and assured him that he is not required to commit to making more future appearances in the role.

"Yeah, it was definitely a personal reach-out to Donald, who we love and stayed close with. We reached out and were like, 'We thought of something. It will be so easy. And you commit to nothing,'" he said.

"And he was really excited to be part of it. He loved the first movie. He has kids that he wanted to surprise by having dad in the movie."

Miller also discussed how costume designer Trayce Gigi Field quickly pulled off a costume for Glover's Prowler before filming his cameo role.

"And we did a fun little shoot. And we got Trayce Gigi Field, who was the costume designer for the first season of The Afterparty to build a Prowler suit in a matter of weeks," he explained.

"These things often take months or years to build and she really did an amazing job designing and building something really quickly so we could all come together and get him into the film."

It is certainly impressive that they were able to lure Glover for this special cameo appearance and it became a quick special moment that fans definitely remember after watching the film.

Besides playing Aaron Davis in the MCU, Glover was previously fancast to play Miles Morales during the character's earlier popularity, and sharing a scene with the animated Miles was a great nod to his history with the character.

It would be interesting to see now whether Glover will make another appearance in the third film and whether he will have an extended scene this time around.
