The Schwartz is officially back. After nearly four decades of waiting, Amazon MGM Studios has finally pulled back the curtain on the sequel to the greatest sci-fi parody of all time. With a surprise reveal at CinemaCon, the studio confirmed that Mel Brooks is ready to roast a whole new generation of cinematic blockbusters.
Every Spoof Shown in the Spaceballs: The New One Trailer Breakdown
The CinemaCon exclusive footage confirmed that nothing is sacred in the sequel. While the full trailer hasn't hit the web yet, reports from the Las Vegas presentation detail a barrage of modern sci-fi and fantasy roasts.
In the trailer, the 99-year-old comedy legend Mel Brooks sent a pre-taped video for the long-awaited sequel to his 1987 sci-fi parody, Spaceballs. In the short clip, Brooks announced the sequel's official title, Spaceballs: The New One.
But what non-CinemaCon attendees know is that the official trailer actually teased a couple of major Hollywood franchises' plans to make fun of in the sequel. This includes Star Wars, Avatar, and Harry Potter.
The trailer (via Variety) featured a similar opening to The Force Awakens, where the sandy desert scene with robots and Jedi-like figures wander about. There had been blink-and-miss-it hits with Han Solo, and Moranis' Lord Dark Helmet peeing at a urinal next to a Na'vi from James Cameron's Avatar franchise.
What Fans Can Expect From Spaceballs: The New One
Apart from the spoofs, Spaceballs: The New One reunites the original cast members Rick Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet, George Wyner as Colonel Sandurz, Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa, Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, and Brooks as the Yoda-like being named Yogurt.

Joining the ensemble are Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan, who are set to portray new characters whose identities remain secret.
Spaceballs: The New One has also been particularly keeping the hush-hush around the official synopsis. Like the original, the follow-up film will take place in a galaxy very, very, very, very far away and is also expected to come up against Star Trek and Alien.
Brooks, who co-wrote and directed the original spoof, shared news last year that read: "Thirty-eight years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy. But since then, there have been... a prequel trilogy, a sequel trilogy, a sequel to the prequel, countless TV spinoffs, a movie spinoff of the TV spinoff, which is both a prequel and a sequel [...] But in 38 years, there has only ever been one Spaceballs. Until now..."
Meanwhile, fans can wait until the hilarious sequel, Spaceballs: The New One, premieres on the big screens on April 23, 2027.
